Old Absinthe House – New Orleans

jamie absinthe

Considered as a heritage of the city of New Orleans the French Quarter is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the area much valued for its exceptional architecture. This welcoming locality is also known as Vieux Carré, or simply as The Quarter and is considered to be the city’s cultural hub. Over the time the neighborhood has attracted many prominent figures such as writers, celebrities and business giants due to its unmatched elegance and serenity.

The buildings in French Quarter date back to the time when New Orleans was not part of United States thus, the influence of the Spanish and the French rule are greatly reflected in the city’s architecture. Due to the Great New Orleans Fire most of the French colonial architecture was destroyed and the Spanish rebuilt the city according to their distinct style. Today French Quarter architecture is a blend of French, Spanish, Creole and American styles and due to its development it is also home to many hotels, guest houses and many commercial establishments.

At the center of the French Quarter is the stunning Jackson Square, home to the St. Louis Cathedral and Pontalba buildings. The cast iron balconies in Pontalba houses generated a new trend in French quarter buildings and many mansions started including these elegant terraces. This made the buildings ideal for people-watching and to have a glimpse of all the events happening in the streets.

It is also ideal to visit nearby attractions as the Bourbon Gallery, Gallerie Dart Francais, Martin Lawrence Gallery, Musee Conti Wax Museum, Old Absinthe House, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop, the Napoleon House and Johnny white’s Bar.

A number of hotels in French Quarter offer a unique vacation experience to visitors.

how long does absinthe last

what´s the last film released by absinthe films?

FUTUREPROOF… For those who are not in the know, Absinthe Films produces movies – basically documentaries about Snowboarding. They follow this highly enjoyable sport around the world. They also have a fun video game about snowboarding as well. Check out there website at Absinthe Films.

By the way, if you are wondering how long a bottle of absinthe will last – the answer is it depends… Of course, you should only drink in moderation. Sometimes absinthe will scare people after they try it and the bottle may stay on a shelf for months. Other times, people will want to share it with others and the bottle will be gone in a night… Because of its relatively high cost, I consider absinthe a luxury item, so for me when I am asked how long does absinthe last… I try to make it a bottle  stretch as long as I can…

Absinthe, Sip of Seduction

Absinthe, Sip of Seduction

Absinthe is not a relic of the past; there is a vibrant and devoted contemporary scene focused exclusively around the notorious Green Fairy. Indeed, the liquor’s lore piques the interest of many: Does the drink drive one to madness? Does it serve as a gateway to boundless creativity? Which is the best method for enjoying the drink–set aflame or chilled with ice and sugar? How can I get my hands on all of the beguiling absinthe antiques? Answering these burning questions, authors Betina Wittels, Robert Hermesch, and T. A. Breaux, all astute absinthe connoisseurs, have updated their wildly successful book with an expanded historical section, new absinthe reviews to tantalize imbibers, sidebars peeking into various absinthe subcultures, stunning new imagery from both past and present, and much more. For those looking to begin their absinthe journey or for those who’ve been on the path for some time, this book is a must for those who fancy all things absinthe.

Jean Mardet’s unique passion — absinthe — possessed him one long-ago winter in the cellars of a snowbound fortress in France. Over the years he became a master distiller, abandoning his wife and children, traveling the world, but eventually returning to Provence where he magically distilled gentian and wormwood in the seclusion of the hills.Absinthe is the story of Jean Mardet. In his house, the uppermost house in the village, a house noted on no official register, in his cellars, among his alembics, his flagons, Jean — priest, magician, sage — celebrates his curious mass, surrounded by his flock, distributing his wonderful and bitter drink. And to a young boy in the village, Jean seems a wizard, and something more — revealing to the young boy the mysteries of absinthe and mesmerizing the youth with the fabulous stories and emotions that the drink inspires. Until 17 March 1915, the day absinthe is outlawed in his country and Jean disappears, taking with him the secrets of his art and of his past. But a boy of nine has discovered the astonishing powers of absinthe, the green enchantress: he has daydreamed amid the chaos of the stills and has learned well at the hand of the old distiller. And in the mysteries of the green liqueur has discovered his own past and his own future.
