Absinthe Verte and Absinthe Verdoyante

Absinthe Verte

Absinthe Verte

Handcrafted Absinthe Verte is prepared by following the traditions of European Master Distillers of the 19th century. One starts with aromatic eau-de-vie, placing it in little 150 liters pots of copper. Then the traditional Absinthe Verte herbs are carefully to added: Anise, Grande Wormwood, sweet fennel, along with a number of proprietary botanicals.

The herbs are gently distilled to a high alcoholic content, catching the scents and essential oils that are in the heart of hand selected flowers and herbs. These herbs are grown and harvested in the fields of Spain, France and Western Europe. The unmistakable aroma of these peaceful European meadows are captured in every bottle of our Absinthe Verte.

Before Verte Absinthe is bottled, it must undergo a “coloring” step. Many commercial absinthes use artificial color. But the best absinthe gets its color in the most traditional way, by placing hand-selected herbs – hyssop, Melissa, and Roman Wormwood wrapped in a gauze and let to steepin hot mixture of Absinthe Verte. These herbs strengthen the coloring as well as the floral aromas and citrus nuances of the final Absinthe Verte. The result is an Absinthe Verte in a totally natural color, a vibrant green, which is similar to the gemstone, Peridot. This nuance is one of the major reasons why the French Impressionists of the Belle Époque demanded that Absinthe Verte be traditionally prepared by hand.

Absinthe Verdoyante

Absinthe Verdoyante is a more recent addition to the world of fine spirits. It is bitter tasting spirit of anise and fennel with extract of wormwood, coriander and a distillate of other herbs and spices.

There are many Bohemian absinthe recipes for Absinthe Verdoyante less anise is used in its production. It is perhaps for this reason… that Absinthe Verdoyante does not turn milky, or ‘louche’ when water is added. It contains 10 mg/kg of thujone.

Alcohol by volume: 60%
Bottle size: 50cl (16.91 oz)
Thujone: 10 mg / kg

When purchasing absinthe one must shop in Europe for the best Absinthe spirits. There are many Absinthe variations one can choose from: Traditional, Verdoyante, Gold King, Staroplzenecky, King, or Red Absinthe, all made with actual wormwood and natural herbs for great flavor. Become an expert Absinthe by purchasing multiple bottles at once to have a tasting party. Absinthe flavors are subtle and influenced by a variety of factors, including herbs, content alcohol, and the brewing process. With discreet shipping to the U.S. and other nations, we recommend either Absinthesupply.net or Absinthe.bz to purchase your absinthe.

The Book of Absinthe

The Book of Absinthe

La Fee Verte (or "The Green Fairy") has intoxicated artists, poets, and writers ever since the late eighteenth century. Stories abound of absinthe’s druglike sensations of mood lift and inspiration due to the presence of wormwood, its infamous "special" ingredient, which ultimately leads to delirium, homicidal mania, and death. Opening with the sensational 1905 Absinthe Murders, Phil Baker offers a cultural history of absinthe, from its modest origins as an herbal tonic through its luxuriantly morbid heyday in the late nineteenth century. Chronicling a fascinatingly lurid cast of historical characters who often died young, the absinthe scrapbook includes Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud, Charles Baudelaire, Oscar Wilde, Ernest Dowson, Aleister Crowley, Arthur Machen, August Strindberg, Alfred Jarry, Vincent van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Alphonse Allais, Ernest Hemingway, and Pablo Picasso. Along with discussing the rituals and modus operandi of absinthe drinking, Baker reveals the recently discovered pharmacology of how real absinthe actually works on the nervous system, and he tests the various real and fake absinthe products that are available overseas. The Book of Absinthe is a witty, erudite primer to the world’s most notorious drink.
